A/R: Police begin investigations into cop suicide

A high powered team of crime officers from the Ashanti Regional Police Command and the Tafo/Pankrono Divisional Command have begun investigations into death of a police officer who allegedly committed suicide.

33-year-old Corporal Ebenezer Kofi Otchere with the Ashanti Regional Police SWAT unit was found dead in his room at Tafo Ahinbronom after it was revealed he shot and killed himself.

According to Assembly Member for the area, Twum Albert, the deceased officer received an anonymous phone call while in the room with his girlfriend.

He narrated that the deceased shot himself in the chest after he ordered the lady to move out after the call.

Briefing journalists on the incident, Ashanti regional police Public Relations Officer, ASP Juliana Obeng says crime officers visited the scene and have commenced investigations into the death.

“The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) morgue awaiting autopsy. Meanwhile the Police have contacted the family on the unfortunate incident. The Regional crime scene team has also visited the crime scene and has commenced investigations into the case. Investigations are ongoing and further updates will be communicated to the general public in due course”.
