Members at the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region have failed to endorse President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s nominee for Municipal Chief Executive.

Alhaji Alidu Seidu on Friday 28 April garnered seven valid votes out of 15 at an assembly election to confirm his nomination.

He failed to obtain the two-thirds majority to become the Chief Executive for the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.

Some aggrieved youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asawase constituency threatened to attack some members of the Assembly members who they accuse of voting against the nominee.

They have accused constituency executives and Member of Parliament(MP) for the area of being behind the nominee’s rejection.

Alhaji Seidu, before his appointment, contested the Asawase constituency parliamentary poll which was won by Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak.

Majority of the assembly members are said to be aligned to the opposition National Democratic Congress.

The military and police have been deployed to control the situation.

Some of the assembly members said they needed police protection for fear of attacks.

Ashanti Regional Minster,Simon Osei Mensah has intervened in the matter to get the Assembly Members endorse the nominee on the adjourned date.
