The campaigning for who leads Ashanti Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) as chairman among other positions have gathered pace as Mr T.K BRAIMAH, has stated emphatically that he is in the race to win.

The astute businessman who is trying his luck for the third time as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the main opposition party, NDC says he stands tall among the names which have so far popped up as regional chairman hopefuls.

He has therefore cautioned the rank and file of the party especially the delegates not to allow themselves to be deceived by anyone to make a wrong choice.

“The forthcoming party primaries to select leaders is not about individual matter but leaders who can lead the party to attract floating voters to help bring NDC back to power come 2020. If you (delegates) think that if you elect T K BRAIMAH as the regional chairman and I cannot work hard to bring NDC back to power in 2020 general elections don’t vote for me”.  He added, stressing that, delegates should never allow themselves to be influenced by money or any other material things “because if they had money or any other material things to be given to you why did they abandon you when the party was in power?”

Speaking with the press about his ambition as the Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman hopeful, he indicated that he was not discouraged at all after twice rejection by delegates of the party. Mr. Braimah said as a committed and a loyal member of the NDC he will not stop contributing to the party and “the fact that I lost twice as a regional chairman aspirant does not mean that I should give up on what I have to the party if I am given the nod as chairman. When it come to contributing to the party from grass root which is the base of the party through to the top level everyone in the party knows TK BRAIMAH has always been there for the past especially 2008 in opposition till date though, when NDC came to power I was not given any official appointment”.

The veteran politician said there was a time for every leadership style and maybe during the period he couldn’t get the opportunity to lead the region as chairman maybe it was not time for him to implement his vision for his party in that capacity.

He said for instance during the era of Mr. Daniel Ohene Agyekum as a level-headed person or leader he knew what to say at what time because ex-President Kuffour was almost done with his tenure of office he (Kuffour) needed international recognition hence didn’t need to counter or react in the same manner to the opposition comparing to the time or era when Nana Akufo-Addo will be contesting for his second term in office with all the security apparatus at his government disposal; “how will a so called tough Ashanti NDC Chairman style of leadership counter or face the NPP?” He queried.

“So the issue of a tough or difficult regional chairman for Ashanti NDC doesn’t come in at all but, the NDC needs a leader who will talk sense and act with maturity to attract or win the hearts of floating voters to enable the party recapture power in 2020 polls.” Mr. Braimah opined.

The NDC regional chairman hopeful said he stands for unity and when given the nod will do everything possible to bring everyone on board especially the Cadres, former party executives, both former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives ( MMDCEs) as well as all former government appointees to help win back power.

“I am not in the business of blaming anyone or blame anyone or blame Gane for our defeat in 2016 general elections because I think that the party best in [the] 2016 polls to retain power was not enough, many of our grassroots supporters were aggrieved and fail to show up to vote and this the time to elect grass root regional chairman and other leaders who will take the grassroots supporters seriously so that we can all work together to recapture power”. He urged.

Mr. BRAIMAH said whenever delegates complained that they were abandoned by the party executives after voting them in power he tells them that, they get a result of the sort of leaders they elect hence they should be vigilant not to repeat same mistakes but rather vote for leaders who care about their welfare and ultimate goal of working assiduously to bring the NDC back to power.
