Executives of the main opposition New Patriotic Party in the Manhyia North Constituency of the Ashanti region have expressed displeasure regarding the way and manner the special voting exercise is being conducted in that Constituency.

Constituency chairman, Mr. Kwaku Oppong told Kapital News’ Precious Adusi Poku that over 68 voters who had traveled  from far and near to vote in the Constituency have been turned away, with explanations that their names are not on the special voters register.

“I don’t know why the Electoral commission is behaving this way. Over 68 people who have traveled from places like Bawku, Aflao, Takoradi, Sefwi, etc only to be told that their names did not appear on the special voters register. In fact, if Ghana continues to experience things like, then December 7, will be a disaster. During the exhibition I came with my Cousin to check his name, but today they are saying his name did not appear on the voters’ register. This is simply appalling”. Chairman Oppong explained.

An estimated number of 246 people are expected to cast their votes in Thursday’s exercise, but since the commencement of the process at 7am, series of complaints have been raised regarding the process.

The general election is expected to take place come Wednesday, December 7, 2016 across all the 247 constituencies in the country.
