A Deputy Minister of Agriculture has resigned over tribal comments he made about northerners in the country.

The Deputy Minister came under serious attack from the northerners, minority and other angles after spewing out what many have described as tribally insensitive and disparaging.

Mr. Quaitoo described Northerners as difficult people who want to defraud the government with the excuse of still suffering from the invasion of the Fall Army Worm and though he apologized for the unfortunate comments following the backlash, it was resisted by some Northern groups and a section of the public who called for his resignation.

The Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin who confirmed Mr. Quaitoo’s resignation Tuesday [29th August, 2017] evening said “nearly an hour ago the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Hon William Quaitoo came to see the president in the company of the Chief of Staff, Hon Frema Opare Osei and tendered in his resignation from office as the Deputy Minister for Agriculture.”

“The president accepted his resignation which takes immediate effect and the president went on to wish him the best of luck”. Mr Arhin added.Suraya Alidu MalititiSuraya Alidu Malititi

Meanwhile information is still sketchy about the whole content of the letter hence it is unclear if Mr. Quaitoo is resigning from Parliament as well as called for by the Minority in the house.
