The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has cleared the air on news that went viral on Wednesday, that the convoy of its presidential candidate, Dr. Papa Kwasi Nduom had been involved in a fatal accident.

Communications Director of the PPP, Paa Kow Ackon who made the clarification said it was the regional campaign vehicle of the party in the Salaga constituency that was involved in the accident, leaving three people dead.

The driver of the vehicle was on his way to the Salaga police station to inform them about the party’s campaign when the accident occurred.

He said, as characteristic of every political rally, there were a group of young men riding up and about on their motorbikes

“What actually happened was that when the Northern Regional Pickup was going to the police station to inform them about the program, these young guys on their motorbikes, nobody knows how they were able to hit the bucket of the pickup which resulted in their death.

But what I’m getting is that the road is quite dusty, and so it makes it difficult for anyone to find their way out if it’s following another vehicle. And so that is what happened,” he explained.

According to him, the police are currently investigating into the matter. The party, he said, is commiserating with the bereaved families.

“But Dr. Nduom was nowhere near where the accident happened,” he added.
