KMA: Election for approval of Mayor underway

The election for approval and confirmation of the Chief Executive for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is currently underway at the True Vine Hotel in the Nhyiaeso Constituency within the metropolis.

President Akufo Addo last week Friday appointed Mr. Osei Assibey to the KMA Chief Executive position and all government appointees have gathered today for their General Assembly meeting of which main on the agenda is to approve and confirm Mr. Assibey as the new Metropolitan Chief Executive for the KMA.

In an interview earlier with the PRO for the assembly, Godwin Okumah Nyame, he indicated all was set for the exercise.

He added that the appointees seem on the same page with the appointment, expressing optimism that the process will be smooth devoid of past happenings at events of this nature organised by the KMA.

Kapital News’ Sani Abdul-Rahman who is currently monitoring proceedings reported, “the atmosphere here is very relaxed and joyous because everyone here seem to be in support of the nominee by president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

Present at the event is the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah was there to grace the occasion expressed joy over the time consciousness displayed by the assembly members in his address to the gathering. He expressed hope that the mayor will be approved and confirmed without any hitch.

He said, “This particular assembly, when I cast my eyes around is a pure concoction of experienced imminent assembly members who will make Kumasi and Africa proud.”

The minister further warned the incoming mayor not to take them for granted as he might do himself more harm than good.

Meanwhile some government appointees and assembly members present told Sani Abdul-Rahman they were going to ensure a smooth running of the exercise, expressing hope that they could all work together for the development of Kumasi.
