The Judicial Service Staff Association, JUSSAG has congratulated Justice Sophia Akuffo for been confirmed the Supreme Court judge, saying all they believe in is competency and her ability to steer the affairs of the Judiciary.

Justice Akuffo was confirmed yesterday [May 12]  by President Nana Akufo-Addo as Ghana’s next Chief Justice.

The president vouched for her integrity and the depth of her law which he said must have informed the decision of President Jerry John Rawlings to appoint her to the Supreme Court in 1995.

“She impressed me considerably with her hard work, her capacity for detailed research, her independence of mind and spirit, her honesty and integrity, her deep seated respect for the rule of law and her abiding believe in the sovereignty of the Almighty God”

“I believe these are the qualities which sustained her brilliant career as a lawyer that propelled her to the notice of the first President of the fourth republic His Excellency  Jerry John Rawlings who appointed her to the Supreme Court on 30th November 1995 some 22years ago ”

Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood is retiring this June three days short of 10 years as the head of the Judiciary.

President of JUSSAG who was speaking on TV3’s News at 10, Friday, said Justice Akufo is a very competent and affable woman who is experienced enough to take the right decisions for the general good of the justice system.

“As far as JUSSAG is concerned, we don’t have issues with gender, we believe in competency and whether or not one is a woman, once she has what it takes to man the organization the way everybody wants, we have no objection.”

We have worked with her and we know she is affable and experienced both locally and internationally and we know that she is able to deliver up to the expectation of all.

On the number of years she will be in office [two years], Mr. Nartey said, that does not matter, what matters rather is how diligently she will work while in office.
