The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described news circulating about some of its members going independent as absolute falsehood been peddled by some members of the society, whose motives the party does not know.

According to Director of Elections of the NPP, Martin Agyei Mensah-Korsah, their checks revealed that the information is inaccurate and absolute lies.

He has therefore called on the rank and file of the party, as well as Ghanaians to disregard this information.

“There is some falsehood, absolute falsehood being peddled about by some members of the society. What their motive is, only them can tell. I have seen or heard some news making the rounds, quoting the numbers as NPP members going independent, and a number of constituencies have been mentioned.

Checks by us indicate that they are completely false, and I want to assure our rank and file to disregard this information,” he said.

Mr. Mensah-Korsah’s statement was in reaction to alleged resignation of some NPP members to contest as independent Parliamentary candidates in the December 2016 polls.

News were ripe over the weekend about Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantama, Henry Kwabena Kokofu as well as some NPP members who have filed forms to contest as independent candidates in the upcoming polls.

A situation many feel is a worrying trend for the New Patriotic Party.

Though Mr. Kokofu has clarified the issues, Mr. Korsah says news still speculating about some other members is false.

Mr. Korsah said immediately after the NPP held its primaries, there were some issues that arose in some constituencies like Ablekuma West, Osu Klottey Korley, and Sunyani and some members decided to go independent.

“These are for me, what we have heard, and there is some confirmation to that effect somehow that forms have been picked. But beyond this, all the other stories that you hear are all hoax, they are not true, they are false,” he added.

He is therefore appealing to the public to disregard the false rumors.
