PHOTOS: Thousands join Otumfour to mourn Asantehemaa

Thousands of  mourners and synpathizers yesterday thronged the Manhyia Palace to observe the One Week funeral celebration of the late Queen of the Ashanti Kingdom, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaah Ampem II.

The late queen mother ruled for a period of 39 years and died last week at age 111 years.

Several dignitaries including traditional rulers from within the kingdom and beyond, President John Mahama and the flag bearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, former Presidents, Kufour and Jerry Rawlings as well as other top government officials and international guests were present to sympathize with the Great King, Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

The event which took place at the forecourt of the Manhyia Palace saw the display of rich Asante culture and tradition.

Persons from all walks of life mostly dressed in a black and red apparel including market women from the Central Business District, group of actors and actresses, Members of Parliament from within the Ashanti region and beyond, and the general public were all present to mourn with the Asante overlord.

The burial of the late queen mother will be announced at a later date.
