Kapital News’ checks at the Kumasi Central Market, Kejetia and some satellite markets within the Kumasi metropolis have revealed that prices of commodities have reduced marginally.

The traders attribute their action to the happiness they feel over the change in government in the country and the obviously elated consumers expressed gratitude to Kapital News’ for the stance taken by the traders.

“I have been selling these commodities for the past 17 years, and in fact things were so tough during the Mahama led administration, i know for sure that the outcome of the elections have resulted in the marginalized decrease of commodities. I want to state categorically that, no body has advised us to do so, we have decided to reduced our goods because of the love and hope we have for the president elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo. Ghanaians should even expect more reduction of goods and services”. Yaa Serwaah, yam seller at Borla-ho.

Kapital News gathered that before the 2016 general elections, three big tubers of yam were selling at GHc12, and GHc15, depending on the size, but with barely a week after the elections, the same commodity is selling at GHc10 and GHc8.

Salsa tin tomatoes was selling at GHc18, and GHc20, but the same commodity is now selling at GHc10, and GHc8.

The situation wasn’t different, when Kapital News got to Krofrom shoe market, as a pair of shoe which was selling at Ghc35, Ghc20 and Ghc60, are now selling at Ghc25, Ghc15 and Ghc20 respectively.

Prices of goods and services at the Afia Kobi market had also reduced marginally including transport fares.

Chairman of the Kejetia Petty Traders Association, Nana Prempeh upon an interaction with Precious Adusi Poku, noted that, the development is not engineered by leadership of the various trade union, but was quick to add that the move is a demonstration of love for the president elect of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo.

He went on to state that, businesses have suffered immensely for the past eight years and therefore believes that the overwhelming victory of the New Patriotic Party, in the just ended elections has ignite confidence in the ordinary Ghanaian as well as traders.

“We the executives have not communicated to any trader to reduce their commodities or whatsoever. But since i am also a trader myself who has joined the spree, I believe have been burdened a lot under President Mahama and we think if God has answered our prayers by given us Nana Addo, we have to support him with our prayers and abilities, and i believe since we’re traders the only thing we can do is to reduce our prices at our own cost.
