Taxi cab runs into kids, kills one, injures 16 others
A Taxi cab with registration number, AS 5721 T has ran into a group of children killing one instantly and injuring sixteen others at Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region.
The incident happened at about 8pm Saturday night when the children had gathered by the streets to watch jubilant New Patriotic Party members hours after the inauguration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo as President of the Republic of Ghana.
According to police, the “inexperienced” driver Kojo Arhin had gone to pick up the car belonging to his brother Akwasi Gyewu who was a Taxi driver to join in the jubilation.
He then lost control of the car and ran into the children.
The body of the four year old deceased, Abena Kyerewaa, has since been deposited at the Nkawie Government hospital while two of the injured were also rushed to the same hospital for treatment.
Seven of the injured were also rushed to the Toase Government hospital and six of them, who were in critical condition were also referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Reports however suggest that, the townsfolk have set the Taxi cab ablaze.
The Taxi driver and his brother have since been arrested by the Nkawie police.
DSP Enoch Abrokwah is Ashanti Regional Commander of the MTTD who confirmed that 7 of the injured children were rushed to the Toase hospital, 2 are at the Nkawie and the remaining 8 are at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital all responding to treatment.
