President Mahama has expressed worry over how some individuals have been using social media to dent his reputation.

Reacting to the series of allegations leveled against him and his government concerning the case of business man Mr. Alfred Agbesi Wayome, the President described those claims as total falsehood and mere political propaganda to tarnish his image.

The President who made the remarks yesterday on GBC’s Star Ghana Presidential debates said there are “people who are just willing to publish any allegations in the papers against the person of the president and they are all kinds false claims, allegations.

The obviously worried president said he gets ‘disheartened’ sometimes when he reads speculations about him in the newspapers, adding his only comfort is the fact that he was ‘elected to do a job’ and he therefore has to take heart despite all the ‘claims and allegations and falsehoods.’

He said, he sometimes read and wonders ‘is this true?’, adding that “that creativity they have in forging those stories in the social media, if they use it to do one day’s productive work, this country will be far ahead than it is today.”

The president who insisted most of them [the allegations] are ‘down right falsehoods for purposes of political propaganda’ bemoaned the how social media has become a fertile ground for speculations.
