Irate youth in the Savelugu-Nantong Municipality in the Northern say they will resist any imposition of a leader on them.

The aggrieved youth in the area are kicking against the appointment of Hajia Ayishetu Seidu as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area.

The youth, clad in NPP T-shirts on Thursday morning overpowered heavy armed police officers deployed to the Municipal Assembly to maintain order.

The youth were wielding stones, sticks and other implement with the aim of battling with the armed officers.

They locked up offices of the Assembly and also tied red bands on the entrances.

The over 200 aggrieved NPP youth have vowed to stop Hajia Seidu from performing her duties.

The MCE was confirmed in May 2017 and has since not reported to work because some residents, led by NPP constituency executives, have refused to allow her step foot in her office.

The NPP youth argue that she is not a registered voter in the area, has not participated in or contributed to any of the party’s activities, and as such is an alien to them.

Spokesperson for the group, Abdul Karim Zakaria told Kapital Radio’s Korsi Assiseh that “we are saying that we are not going to tolerate oppressors rule, we shall resist oppressors rule and that is what Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo built his political career on. Nana Akufo-Addo fought the military regime, he fought autocratic regime, he fought dictatorship and today, they are dictating for the people of Savelugu and we are resisting the dictatorship”.

According to him, the regional executives of the NPP in the region are imposing the MCE on them- a decision they will continue to kick against.

Mr Zakaria said the regional executives had misled and misinformed the President when he consulted them in the appointment of the MCE.

The aggrieved youth are calling on the President to revoke the appointment of Hajia Seidu with immediate effect.
