Wednesday’s Blackout: Surge Caused Generator Shutdown-GRIDCo

The Ghana Grid Company, GRIDCo the nationwide black out witnessed last night was as a result of a surge that shutdown generators in the power system.

A statement issued by the company said “technical teams in the value-chain have been working to restore the power system into service.”

The statement signed by the Head of Public Relations of GRIDCo, Albert Kwesi Quainoo said details of the cause of the outage will be announced to the public as soon as preliminary investigations are over.

Ghana witnessed a surge of power around 9:40pm last night after the heavy downpour.

In an earlier interview with the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo, William Amuna, he indicated that the last time a nationwide blackout hit Ghana was in January 2016. Meanwhile he said they were working on a full restoration any time soon.
