Deputy Local Government and Rural Development Minister has said his office will continue to dialogue with members of the Asante-Akim Central Municipal Assembly to get them rescind their decision and endorse the President’s nominee as Chief Executive for the area.

The nominee, George Kyei Baffour failed to attain two thirds majority after he garnered 19 YES votes and 17 NO votes.

Mr. Kyei-Baffour has another chance for the members to decide whether or not to confirm his nomination after two failed attempts.

He is due to go for re-election after a re-nomination by the President in the next 10-days.

Before the start of the voting process on Monday, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, Deputy Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Collins Augustine Ntim, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, and the Head of Local Government Service, Dr. Ato Arthur pleaded with the Assembly Members to ensure the nominee was confirmed.

Their pleas and messages did not yield results as the nominee failed to get two thirds majority of the total vote cast.

Speaking to Korsi Asiseh on Daybreak Kapital, Collins Ntim said the Ministry will continue its appeal to get the members rescind their decision.

“It has to do with local politics which I will not be able to delve deeper. What I can say for now is that we should continue to plead with the Assembly members, we should continue to plead with traditional authorities and we should continue to plead with all the opinion leaders so that they give him the last chance to prove himself .So we want the media to also join us to appeal to the minds of Assembly members as soon and approved”.

Mr Ntim emphasized that the failure of the members to confirm the President’s nominee was impacting negatively on the development of the area.
