The Finance Minister has somewhat settled the debate on the use of the Heritage fund to finance the much talked about free SHS policy of the government.

The debate has been heated on whether or not it is plausible for government to use the fund to implement the policy after the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo hinted of such a plan by government.

Many stakeholders have shared their opinions on the matter with many spitting fire on the government for harboring such a thought.

However the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta setting the records straight said “we will not touch the Heritage Fund for the Senior High School program”.

He believes that the Senior Minister, was misunderstood by the public when he made the comment about the usage of the Heritage Fund by the government.

“As far as I know he alluded at looking at all the options for us to be able to finance”.

“We have enough resources from out envelope to be able to go without touching” the heritage fund. He added.

He disclosed that how the policy will be funded will be contained in the budget to be presented next month.

There is going to be a budgetary allocation for that and it does not include the heritage fund. We have to listen to the budget.., there is still a lot of work to be done before March 2nd or so and so you will hear” from the government.

Meanwhile the questions on the lips of many currently is why did the Senior Minister blurt that out when no concrete decision has been taken on that yet.
