The outgoing President of the Republic of Ghana, John Mahama, has tasked the newly appointed Auditor General Daniel Domelovo to work closely with the incoming Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s government to ensure the reduction of the misuse of public funds in the country.

Mr. Mahama believes that’s the only way to help ensure probity, transparency, and accountability in government.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony of the newly appointed Auditor-General in Accra Friday, December 30,2016, the outgoing president reminded Mr. Domelovo of the auditor general’s responsibility which is to ensure good governance, urging him to deliver just that to Ghanaians through the pursuit and application to the highest level of professionalism, accountability, probity and transparency in the public financial management system of Ghana.

He urged Mr. Domelovo to be proactive in the discharge of his duties and focus on creating an environment that will make it difficult for public office holders to be comfortable in embezzling public funds.

Mr. Mahama said, “the audit service is also mandated by the constitution of the republic of Ghana to monitor the use and management of all public funds and report to the people of Ghana through parliament and other fora of public interests and engagement”, hence encouraged Mr. Domelovo to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the “successful delivery of this mandate”.

On his part, the newly appointed Auditor-General pledged to discharge his duties without fear or favor.

“I’ve been humbled by this appointment which I accept wholeheartedly and I want to assure my fellow Ghanaians that I will discharge the duties and the responsibilities attached to this office to the best of my ability without fear or favor, affection or ill will.”

Meanwhile President says judging from the enormous experience of Mr. Domelovo with the accountant general’s department, he [Mr. Mahama] believes he [Mr. Domelovo] will discharge his duties with excellence.
